May 2015

During the month of May we crammed in many different events into one month.  Of course, we had two birthdays - Drayton's on the 20th and Henry's on the 26th.  Mommy couldn't be there for Drayton's and Daddy couldn't be there for Henry's so we were not the most photographed group for these two birthdays but we certainly still celebrated.

Homemade lemon cake with lemon curd frosting (he loves lemon!)

Not-so-nice sibling picture!

The weekend between Henry and Drayton's birthday we surprised the kids and went to Legoland in Malaysia.  We rented a car here in Singapore and drove the hour and a half across the Straits into Malaysia and we stayed at the Legoland hotel.  To say that there were a lot of screaming, crazy kids there would be an understatement!  The hotel had themed rooms and we stayed in a "pirate" family room which included 4 bunk beds and a king size bed all surrounded by pirate ships and it even had a scavenger hunt inside the room culminating in the opening of the safe for prizes.

We drove up on Saturday am and drove back Sunday afternoon.  Saturday afternoon was spent at Legoland where all of us had a great time regardless of our age.  We built Lego race cars and raced each other down the tracks; we built Lego buildings on the earthquake machine and tested whether or not our buildings could withstand the earthquake tremors and shocks.  We rode roller coasters that looked like Lego cars and saw basically all the Star Wars movies replicated in Lego models.  And we walked through a village with recreations of amazing sites from so many Southeast Asia countries.

We didn't let a little rain stop of from heading out to Legoland!

A full model of Ankor Wat - was very impressive since we saw it in person already!

The master bedroom - fancy!!

Drayton and Laura attended the Stamford American International School Gala in May and had a great time with lots of new friends.  The theme was "Derby Gala" and we learned that "derby" has different interpretations.  As Americans, when we hear derby, we automatically think Kentucky Derby and the big, creative hats.  When British hear derby they think of the Epsom Derby and other races in their country where the ladies all wear their fascinators and the men wear tops hats.  The Australians think of the Melbourne Cup with their fascinators and the men in top hats and tails.  As a result, the Stamford Gala was a mix of so many different outfits and it was great fun to admire the finery.  Fascinators definitely outnumbered big hats (but our wide brims definitely took up a lot more space)!
