January 2016

After traveling almost every month that we've lived in Singapore, we decided once we returned from Jamaica that we were NOT traveling again in January.  As a result, this post is just a few random pictures from different activities.

Henry went to a birthday party for Yoav, a friend of his from Israel who moved here this past fall.  Yoav's mother invited TWELVE 8 year old boys over to go bowling and spend the night!  They live in a condo like we do and I haven't a clue where she put them all.  Yoav and his family speak Hebrew at home as he also does with his friends from the synagogue that go to other schools.  Henry's main concern about the night was whether the three boys that Yoav invited from Stamford (including Henry) would be able to understand the rest of the kids since Henry says that they all speak Hebrew all the time.  These are the sorts of issues we run into here as expats and I love that!  It turned out they did indeed speak some English and some Hebrew and Henry managed just fine.  How the mother managed with 12 boys overnight in 2,000 sq ft (mind you she already has 4 kids of her own!) is another question....

I love these signs and just had to add this one in that I walked past recently.  Whenever a crime is committed in Singapore, a sign is placed where that crime took place and stays for about a month.  We see them about pickpockets, vandalism, intoxication, and clearly obscene acts.  I was walking past a empty lot on a busy street and clearly it is where young folks have gone to make out and someone got caught.  Talk about announcing it to the world!!
